SUBJECT: Tails from the Bark Side - 4/27/26

THIS WEEK AT HICKS

Today - Thursday

  • Robotics World Championships! GOOD LUCK MECHA MASTERS!!! Watch our social media for updates as we have them!

All week

  • TK Conference Week (Minimum week for TK only). Grades K-5... it's a normal schedule week.

Thursday

  • Deadline to order Yard Signs for 5th Grade Promotion

  • Celebration of Learning
    • There are 2 sessions to choose from. If you have ONE student at HCE... pick the session time that works best for you! If you have TWO students at HCE... this allows you to be able to visit with both classes (one each session). If you have THREE or more students at HCE.. you can break up your time as it works for you! :)
      • Session 1: 5-5:30
      • Session 2: 5:35 - 6:05

    • Please note that 2nd graders have an alternate schedule (Wax Museum presentations). Watch for information from your teacher.

    • We know a few teachers have alternate dates for this event - please watch for info from your teacher if your event is NOT on this evening.

    • Good to know:
      • This event is an Open House format.. it's not a presentation. Your student will be your guide in the classroom!
      • While your teacher will be there to meet-and-greet, please understand that this is not the time to have detailed conversations about your student with the teacher. Request a meeting if you'd like to chat about specifics.
      • You are welcome to visit other classrooms/grades if you like! Want to see what happens in 5th grade? Stop by! But remember this event is for teachers and families to focus on THIS YEAR's class and students - teachers are not able to chat with you about curriculum, specific questions and plans for your child. Please allow the teachers to spend this special day focussing on their current students. But you are welcome to come be a "fly on the wall" to visit. :)
      • Stop by the 2nd Graders "Wax Museum" on the blacktop (between 5:10 - 5:30 PM)! Push a button in front of one of the dozens of historical figures to learn more about them!

  • The last day to enter receipts from the Marketplace for this year's Earn & Learn program. Let's finish this thing strong!

Friday

  • PBIS Pizza Party. These parties are hosted 3x/year by the PTO as a reward for students earning "Husky Points" in PBIS. Students can use their points to join for a special pizza lunch with Mrs. Fitch & Mrs. Vela... BINGO and of course... PRIZES!  Brought to you by the PTO
    • We'd love some help for this event - it's our biggest pizza party of the year as students have saved up their Husky Points! Contact president@hickscanyon.org if you can volunteer.

Saturday

  • Kids Run the OC. Good luck to all of our Run Club athletes!
Husky Happenings
Teacher Appreciation Week is NEXT WEEK!

The PTO is throwing it back to the 90's for this celebration - and we have lots of surprises in store for our teachers and staff - because they are ALL THAT AND A BAG OF CHIPS!

We hope YOU can get in on the action too! There are lots of ways to get involved:

1) Help us stock the teacher's lounge with goodies to fuel our teachers and staff through the week!Check out the list and see if there's anything you can grab on your next shopping trip! (Lots more details in the link.)

2) Participate in the "gift" days to celebrate your teacher! (See below for the schedule). These gifts are completely optional - participate at any level you like! And of course these are just suggestions - you can go off-script if you prefer. :)

3) Looking for delivery help! We have a few things that need to be picked up/delivered to school during the week. Contact us if you can help.

  • Coffee deliveries: Monday and Thursday - 7:30 AM. Starbucks (Monday) and Peet's (Thursday) are generously donating coffee for our teachers/staff! We'd love a volunteer to pick up and deliver to school (in time to be set up in the teachers' lounge by 8 AM).

  • Ice deliveries:
    • Each day (M-F) - we're looking for volunteers to purchase/donate and deliver 2 bags of ice to fill the coolers for the day. Let us know if you can do one day - that's a huge help! Delivery time: between 8 AM - 8:45 AM
    • Luncheon ice delivery - a volunteer to purchase/donate and deliver 4 bags of ice for the staff appreciation luncheon on Wednesday (May 6th). Delivery time: between 12 PM and 12:45 PM

4) Watch for more ways to be involved from your class parent this week!
