SUBJECT: Tails from the Bark Side - 10/27/25

THIS WEEK AT HICKS

ALL WEEK:

  • It's Red Ribbon Week - with a focus on making healthy choices! You can help share this message with your Husky - it's a perfect time to talk about healthy habits - including eating well, exercising, and avoiding substances that can hurt you. Please note - there are NO dress-up days with Red Ribbon week this year, as we just came off Unity Week and we know parents, students and teachers are themed out (and we are fresh out of clothing themed-puns!) Our Student Council hosts spirit days throughout the year too - so never fear; there's hope for a "crazy hair day" yet!

  • TK Conference Week (TK students have early dismissal all week)

Wednesday:

  • It's the first day of Session 2 of Wednesday After School Classes! Please talk to your student to remind them which class they are in - and watch for information from your instructor about where the class will meet. Pick up for After School programs is in the FRONT of the school only - the back gate is NOT open.

Thursday:

  • Students can wear costumes to school! We're ready for the K-Pop Demon Hunters take-over!
    • No masks, costume accessories or weapons
    • Shoes must be comfortable and school-appropriate
    • Students must be able to sit/move easily in their costume
    • PLEASE DO NOT SEND IN ANY CANDY OR TREATS TO SHARE with classmates.
    • No parents on campus (only TK and K have Halloween events).

Friday:

  • NO SCHOOL! Happy Halloween!

Sunday:

  • It's DINO DASH Day! This event is put on by Tustin Public Schools Foundation - and $10 from each HCE student/family registration goes RIGHT BACK TO HCE. Just make sure to write in Hicks Canyon Elementary when you REGISTER!
    • On event morning - meet us at 8:30 AM in front of Dick's Sporting Goods for a big HCE team photo! (The 2k event starts at 9 AM. 5K runners start at 8 AM... so just run SUPER fast to meet us!) :)

As always - visit Husky Happenings for the look ahead.

BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE PTO!
Walk Through California

Last week our 4th graders took a journey to learn more about the history of our state - with their Walk Through California adventure! There were games, music, historical re-enactments, hands-on projects and storytelling to really help history come alive!

Students learned about historical events and key figures - and then put on a presentation attended by parents to share what they learned.

Have a question about the founding of this great state? Ask a 4th grader!

The PTO is proud to fund this immersive program - as well as the upcoming Walk Through Revolution for our 5th graders.

Moms' Night!

The PTO hosted our inaugural Moms' Night "Chocolate and ChitChat" - where more than 40 moms gathered to make new friends, share stories and just enjoy an easy night out.
We're grateful to the Northpark HOA for donating the space - and all the attendees for bringing sweets and beverages to share.

There's already been requests for an encore - so stay tuned as we schedule a spring date!

(We're also looking for a new name for this event. While the event itself was a hit - the name "chocolate and chit chat" was NOT. :) Send us your nomination for our next round!)

ONGOING

Tournament of Champions registration is OPEN for Harvest Cup (Soccer), Winter Bowl (Flag Football) and Hoops Classic (Basketball).

  • Open to 3rd- 5th graders - get all the info here.
  • HEADS UP: The deadline to register for Harvest Cup is November 3rd (Monday)- but we need a minimum of 13 kids on the team to participate - join the fun!

The Tustin Community Foundation is hosting their annual PAJAMA DRIVE- collecting NEW pajamas (adult, teen, child and baby) to be distributed to those in need in our community! Bring your pajamas in to the collection box in the front office no later than November 18th!

Volunteer Here
It's not too late to join the PTO!

In fact... it's NEVER too late! You can become a member of the PTO with your donation whenever it works best for YOU. Our husky backpack buddies will be delivered to new members WEEKLY moving forward - they go into your teacher's mailbox and they get them to your student. Remember, payment plan options are available too!
