    • Team Kids is a national school-based, student-led youth leadership program bringing together students with on-duty police officers, firefighters, mentors, and Team Kids local university intern volunteers. 4th and 5th grade students who wish to participate on the leadership team VOTE on local causes they want to amplify. Weekly school-wide challenges take place leading up to a CARNIVAL (Dec 12). The 4th & 5th grade leadership team hosts games and activities at this carnival event - which is attended by all the grades during their lunch periods. The proceeds from the carnival benefit a local charity of the leadership team’s choice! Stay tuned for more info after the kickoff!

As always - visit Husky Happenings for the look ahead.

5th Grade Boys and Girls Campfire Puberty Talks

Our 5th graders enjoyed an evening (one for girls, one for boys) of informative (and fun!) puberty talks, hearing about the physical and emotional changes that occur during this important stage of life. They learned what changes to expect, tips for staying healthy and confident as well as age-appropriate advice on hygiene. The event also included interactive games and prizes and of course - treats!

THANK YOU to our 5th Grade Committee for making these back-to-back campfire chats so engaging and memorable!

Visit our album for a few pics from the nights!

Robotics Competition

It was a packed house for the TUSD Robotics Competition on Saturday! We had 4 teams representing Hicks; Team A (Mecha Masters), Team B (Ro-Bros), Team C (Gear Girls) and Team E (Denim Divas).
We've got to make more space in that trophy case - as the Mecha Masters brought home the Think Award and the Ro-Bros clinched the Sportsmanship Award! All teams will continue vying for a spot at States in the next competitions - come cheer them on again at Orchard Hills on December 13th!

Check out the album from the event with team pics.

Art Masters

Wednesday's assembly featured the works of Raphael - and now classes are testing their own skills with watercolors!

Learn more about how the program works here - and visit our album to see more works of art from these talented kids (and parents volunteers!)

PBIS Husky Pizza Party

These parties are hosted 3x/year by the PTO as a reward for students earning "Husky Points" in PBIS. Students in grades K-5 can use their points to redeem for a special pizza lunch with Mrs. Fitch & Mrs. Vela... BINGO and of course... PRIZES!

This month - 30 students joined us for pizza and fun! We're already excited for the next one!

Coffee with Admin

This month's Coffee with Admin focused on "Huskies learning Math." Mrs. Vela started with an overview of the math curriculum, and then Mrs. Nelligan dove deeper into the "how". From there, we broke into groups and visited classrooms to observe the techniques - from TK through 5th grade! It was an amazing opportunity to be able to see the methods in action - and we are grateful to Mrs. Vela, Mrs. Nelligan and all of the host teachers for welcoming families to gain a better understanding of how our students are learning!

PTO Meeting Summary

Thank you to all who joined for our PTO meeting! Save the date for our next one: January 23rd at 10 AM.

Please watch for our meeting summary AND the results of our PTO survey in WEDNESDAY's email (Hump Day Happenings).
