SUBJECT: Tails from the Bark Side (9/14/26)

This Week at Hicks

Wednesday

  • Donuts with Loved Ones! Brought to you by the PTO!
    • Join us for donuts with your littles (and mmm... coffee for the "bigs") in the Large MPR before school starts! We'll be serving it up from 7:45 AM - 8:30 AM!
    • The back gate WILL allow parents to enter! Any kids entering back gate between 7:45-8:10 will need to be accompanied by an adult. They will not be allowed in without an adult until after 8:10 as usual. Back gate will be closed promptly at 8:40 (event ends at 8:30) so that parents have time to exit.
    • This event is for EVERY student in the school - from TK - 5th! No rsvp necessary - come join your Husky on campus before you head to work!

Friday

  • The final day of the PTO membership classroom contest - winning class in EACH grade gets an ice pop party! Did you know there are monthly payment plan options for membership? There are!Check out all of the PTO levels here!

  • It's PREVIEW DAY for the Book Fair. Learn more about how the Book Fair works (and when YOU can shop with your Husky) on our Husky Happenings page!

Book Fair is NEXT week!
  • Teachers (grades K-5) take their classes to visit the book fair during the school day. Upper grade students can also visit during their recess and after lunch. TK parents - we recommend you shop WITH your students... it's simply too overwhelming for our littlest friends to go as a class. :)

  • You can shop WITH your students before school (7:45 AM - 8:30 AM) or after school. And of course at Evening at the Book Fair on next Thursday evening (4:30 - 7:00 PM).

  • What we ask of YOU (the parents - grades K-5):
    • Provide your student(s) with either cash to bring to school to shop, OR load their "e-wallet" with Scholastic. If they have funds on their e-wallet, they simply tell our volunteers their name, and they will be able to shop with that credit.
    • Make sure your student knows which method of payment they will be using. Our teachers are not aware of who has funds on their e-wallet and who plans to use cash.
    • Prefer to shop with your student? You are not required to send money to school for them to shop on their own - consider shopping with them before school, after school or at Evening at the Book Fair!
    • Volunteer with us for a shift! Shifts run throughout the school day in short blocks - and it's fun!
    • Consider "rounding up" your purchase to the nearest dollar - those extra cents will go toward the "Share the Fair" fund - used to purchase books for our library and teacher wish lists!
    • At this year's Book Fair - we will not be using pennies for payments! Cash payments will be rounded DOWN to the nearest 0 or 5 cents. Credit card and e-wallet payments will remain exact charge. Please DO NOT send your student with pennies to make payments.
Volunteer Opportunities!

So many ways to get involved - in-school opportunities, at-home jobs - the list is updated weekly!

We are INCREDIBLY grateful to our volunteers - and we'd LOVE to see some new faces at our events and supporting programs! We have a few programs that will NOT be able to continue without volunteer support - we hope you'll visit the link and see where you might be able to help!

Spotlight on just a few coming up:

- Best event to help before work: Donuts with Loved Ones THIS WEDNESDAY

- Best way to meet more parents: Book Fair (slots open for every day next week!)

- Best way to be IN your child's class: Art Masters

- Best "at-home" gig: Earn and Learn Receipt Entry

- Best way to make sure Team Kids can return as a program this year - BE THE LEAD WE NEED!

- Best "I want to get more involved" role: Oooh... there's so many! Don't make me choose! Check out the list to see what's available!

Remember: All of these events have been done before - and we have the tools to make sure you are a success. You won't be starting from zero - and our structure is set up so that every volunteer role has support and guidance!
