SUBJECT: Tails from the Bark Side (9/21/26)

This Week at Hicks

ALL WEEK!

  • It's Scholastic Book Fair Week! Brought to you by the PTO
    • See below for the full details!

TODAY

  • Registration is OPEN for Musical Theater! (Grades 1-5)
Seussical Jr. is coming to Hicks Canyon! Follow along as JoJo and Horton the Elephant journey through the incredible world of Dr. Seuss, where they’ll meet the Cat in the Hat, the Whos of Whoville, Gertrude McFuzz, Mayzie La Bird and more! With crazy characters, big adventures, awesome songs and lots of Seussian fun, this is one show you’re definitely going to want to be a part of! Brought to you by the PTO.

TUESDAY

  • PICTURE DAY! Send your student(s) in their best... with fingers crossed they maintain until the photo is taken! (Uniforms are NOT required on Picture Day.) Be sure to complete the order form that went home in your Friday Folder so that you can order photos!

  • 5th Grade GIRLS Puberty Talk (watch for more info from your 5th Grade Committee) Brought to you by the PTO.

WEDNESDAY

  • Our first Sabrina Lentini Assembly for our TK and Kindergarteners! This energetic assembly features music, dance, an intro to instruments and rhythm! Brought to you by the PTO.
    • Wait... didn't it used to be 1st and 2nd grade too? It did! But starting this year, 1st and 2nd graders have music class through the District - just like 3-5th graders! With this change, the PTO has expanded Sabrina Lentini's assemblies to be more interactive with smaller group sizes for our TK and Kinder friends - so they can have even more opportunities to learn through her presentations - allowing all of Hicks students to benefit from music instruction!

  • 5th Grade BOYS Puberty Talk (watch for more info from your 5th Grade Committee) Brought to you by the PTO.

THURSDAY

  • Night at the Book Fair! Join us from 4:30 - 7:30 PM to shop with your student and visit with our sponsors!
  • Our Husky Gear Pop-Up Shop will be open at Night at the Book Fair too - grab some new designs or your grade level shirt.

Book Fair DETAILS!
  • Teachers (grades K-5) take their classes to visit the book fair during the school day. Upper grade students can also visit during their recess and after lunch. TK parents - we recommend you shop WITH your students... it's simply too overwhelming for our littlest friends to go as a class. :)

  • You can shop WITH your students before school (7:45 AM - 8:30 AM) or after school. And of course at Evening at the Book Fair on Thursday evening (4:30 - 7:00 PM).

  • What we ask of YOU (the parents - grades K-5):
    • Provide your student(s) with either cash to bring to school to shop, OR load their "e-wallet" with Scholastic. If they have funds on their e-wallet, they simply tell our volunteers their name, and they will be able to shop with that credit.
    • Make sure your student knows which method of payment they will be using. Our teachers are not aware of who has funds on their e-wallet and who plans to use cash.
    • Prefer to shop with your student? You are not required to send money to school for them to shop on their own - consider shopping with them before school, after school or at Evening at the Book Fair!
    • Volunteer with us for a shift! Shifts run throughout the school day in short blocks - and it's fun!
    • Consider "rounding up" your purchase to the nearest dollar - those extra cents will go toward the "Share the Fair" fund - used to purchase books for our library and teacher wish lists!
    • At this year's Book Fair - we will not be using pennies for payments! Cash payments will be rounded DOWN to the nearest 0 or 5 cents. Credit card and e-wallet payments will remain exact charge. Please DO NOT send your student with pennies to make payments.
Volunteer Opportunities!

So many ways to get involved - in-school opportunities, at-home jobs - the list is updated weekly!

Remember: All of these events have been done before - and we have the tools to make sure you are a success. You won't be starting from zero - and our structure is set up so that every volunteer role has support and guidance!
