WHAT ARE WEDNESDAY AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS?

 Wednesday After School programs are offered for students in grades 1-5. We are not able to host after-school programs for TK and Kinder as they are released earlier and we simply don't have the space to host! 

 

Wednesdays are "early dismissal days" at Hicks - and these programs offer families a chance to try a new skill or sport, while extending the school day! 

 

Classes are hosted by outside vendors. These vendors rent facility use through TUSD to host programs on campus - and their instructors are employed by and managed by each vendor - NOT the PTO or school admin. The PTO helps facilitate the registration process so that sessions are equal lengths - and supports the logistics for the school and sharing information with parents. If you have concerns about the class - reach out directly to the VENDOR. 

 

About the Sessions: 

ALL classes start at 1:30 PM (right after grades 1-5 dismissal) and end at 2:35 PM. 

 

Sessions are hosted 4x/year. Each session is 9 classes - except for session 1 (8 classes).

Registration and class dates for each session are listed below. 

Some classes WILL sell out - please register as soon as registration opens for the session to avoid disappointment! Late adds will absolutely NOT be accepted.

 

Class offerings vary each session. We do have some classes that are offered in all 4 sessions (including the Art class, Chess and Basketball) - but some classes are only hosted for 1 or 2 sessions. If you see something you want to try in this session - be sure to register early once registration opens - classes DO sell out!

Session 1
8 Classes

  • Last Class: October 14 (please note if you are doing Musical Theater you will miss the last class for auditions) 

Session 2
9 classes

  • Registration Opens: Wednesday, October 7 at 10 AM 
  • Registration Closes: Friday, October 16 at 11:59 PM OR when the class reaches capacity! 
  • First Class: October 21
  • No Class: November 11 (Veterans Day), November 25 (Fall Break), December 23 & 30 (Winter Break) 
  • Last Class: January 13

SESSION 3
9 CLASSES

  • Registration Opens: Wednesday, January 6 at 10 AM
  • Registration Closes: Friday, January 15 at 11:59 PM OR when the class reaches capacity! 
  • First Class: January 20
  • Last Class: March 17

SESSION 4
9 CLASSES

  • Registration Opens: Wednesday, March 10 at 10 AM
  • Registration Closes: Friday, March 19 at 11:59 PM OR when the class reaches capacity! 
  • First Class: March 31 (no class March 24- Spring Break) 
  • Last Class: May 26

SESSION 2 CLASS OFFERINGS COMING SOON!

Dance/Cheer - LET'S GO HCE! This high-energy class has kids learning cheers, dance routines and choreography... and concludes with a performance at a school pep-assembly - and MAY include opportunities to cheer at HCE sports events! (Grades 1-5 ... max 35 students)

*Please note that the pep assembly performance is outdoors. We do our best to allow the team to perform... but depending on the school's assembly schedule or the weather, sometimes this is not possible. Please help set these expectations for your cheerleader! 

Art Class with Cybele Rowe - She's back! We're so grateful to have Cybele back for another year at Hicks, offering her art class filled with creativity and fun! Students work with ceramics, drawing, painting, mixed-media art and more in this student favorite program. It's never the same class twice!
(Grades 1-5... max 40 students) 

 

Chess - Checkmate! From beginner to budding grandmaster - this class keeps our Huskies thinking! (Grades 1-5... max 38 students ) 
 

Basketball - This class is a slam dunk!  (Grades 1-5... max 25 students) 

  

Cooking Class - Get ready for your mini Chef to wow you with their weekly creations. This class sells out within minutes each session... make sure your alarm is set and you are ready when the time comes! Learn more about the team here. (Grades 1-5... max 16 students)
