Hicks Canyon Talent Show
Thursday, March 26 at 7 PM
Large MPR
THE BASICS:
Who can participate in the Talent Show?
Hicks Canyon students in Kindergarten – 5th Grade are welcome to participate! Students can perform solo or in a group. All students in the show must be currently enrolled at Hicks.
Is there a cost to participate?
There is NO fee to audition. Selected acts will have a $25 registration fee per student to participate. In addition, each student is required to have an adult (parent or guardian) complete 1 volunteer shift (no more than 2 hours). More details on this below.
What types of acts are allowed?
Singing, dancing, playing an instrument, skits, magic tricks, gymnastics, comedy, or any other family-friendly talent! Please no lip-syncing. Please keep acts school-appropriate in both content and costume.
Does everyone make the show?
We will be hosting auditions and working with our director to ensure the show has a variety of acts and talents. We are NOT able to promise that all acts will be selected for the show. Please help your Husky understand this before attending auditions.
How long can each act be?
Acts should be no longer than 2 minutes. This ensures that everyone gets a chance to shine and we can fit all acts into the show. Please note, auditions are limited to 1 minute.
Can students be in more than one act?
To allow as many students as possible to participate, each student may perform in one act only.
AUDITION DETAILS:
WHAT: Auditions are hosted to review all acts for appropriateness, timing, and stage setup needs. The goal is to include as many students as we can in the show while ensuring a variety of acts, ages and smooth flow for the show. Auditions are limited to 1 minute.
WHEN: Auditions will be hosted after school on Wednesday, January 7th and Friday, January 9th. The deadline to register for an audition slot is Tuesday, January 6th at 5 PM.
HOW: To sign up for an audition, parents must complete the audition sign up form. YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED of your audition time slot the week prior to auditions.
WHAT TO BRING: Students should come prepared with everything needed for their act — music, props, costumes, and instruments if applicable. (No need to bring a piano or keyboard; the school has a piano.) Music must be school-appropriate and submitted to our Director ahead of Auditions. You will receive more information with your audition time slot confirmation.
REHEARSAL DETAILS:
Once the acts are selected, parents will be notified and given the opportunity to register their performer ($25 registration fee) and sign up for a volunteer shift.
At that time we'll also be setting the rehearsal schedule. To make the rehearsals as efficient as possible, acts will be grouped together so that not all students will attend rehearsal for every act. Rehearsals will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays between 3 PM and 5:30 PM - starting on February 24. A required dress-rehearsal will be on Tuesday, March 24.
Attendance at all assigned rehearsals is required. Unless your child is sick, they should not miss their
rehearsal. If a performer misses rehearsals, it is possible the act will be pulled from the show.
Your child will need to bring all of their supplies for their act to EACH rehearsal (instrument, props, etc.) Again, the school has a piano. Outfits should be neat, comfortable, and school appropriate.
SHOW DATE DETAILS:
The show is Thursday, March 26th at 7 PM in the Large MPR at the school.
Tickets will go on sale in early March.
General Admission tickets will be $10 and VIP Tickets (first 5 rows) will be $20. Cast families will have an opportunity to purchase tickets before they go on sale to the rest of the school. All HCE families (and neighbors) are invited!
Students will also perform a show during school on Wednesday, March 25 for their fellow students (sorry, parents are NOT able to attend this show!).
FAQs:
Why do you require parents to volunteer?
Putting on a Performing Arts production takes a lot of work! To ensure the safety of our students and a fun experience for all, we need all hands on deck! We will need volunteers to help with rehearsal, programs, backstage supervision, decorations, ticket takers at the show, ushering, and more. We are asking that all parents commit to at least ONE volunteer shift (no more than 2 hours) during the course of our program. No experience is necessary!
If you do not sign up for a volunteer shift, one will be assigned for you. We recommend signing up for the slot that works best for you once the sign ups are released.
How come my child has to attend rehearsals? They already practice their talent with lessons/a private coach, etc.
Our talent show isn't just about solo performances. Our students will work together in a choreographed opening number and closing number, as well as need to learn their cues and the flow of the show. We love celebrating all of our performers, and we ask that all students support each other and participate.
