WEDNESDAY AFTER SCHOOL SPORTS 
(1st - 5th Grade)

 

HCE PTO supports outside vendors to host programs for students in 1st - 5th grade for 4 sessions of "Wednesday After School" programs. Sports are always offered each session (sports vary). See Wednesday After School Programs for more details. 

INTRAMURAL SPORTS - Volleyball
(4th & 5th Grade)

Tustin Unified hosts 2 volleyball leagues (girls in the fall...boys in the spring) for schools to compete against each other. 

  • Teams are limited to 16 players... 5th graders receive priority for spots on the team, and then we open to 4th graders IF there are still spots available - up to a max of 16 players. 
  • Practices are hosted at Hicks (on the blacktop) Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 PM - 3:45 (dates vary per season).
  • Seasons run for about 10 weeks total. 
  • Games (between 6-8/season) are hosted at Hicks or other TUSD schools from 3-4 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the season. Parents will need to transport their athlete to the games - or coordinate with a teammate to carpool.

Tournament of ChampioNS
(3rd - 5TH GRADE)

Tournament of Champions (hosted by OC Youth Sports) is a series of sports tournaments for students in Irvine and Tustin schools.

How does it work? 

Players register to participate on their school's team for each sport (registration is $70/player/sport ... which INCLUDES your jersey). The school recruits parent volunteers to coach the teams (there are multiple teams for each sport: girls, boys - different grade levels). The teams practice to prepare for the "Tournament" weekend - where they'll play against other Irvine and Tustin schools. 

Seasons are SHORT - less than a month! 

 

When are the practices?

The practice days/times are chosen by our volunteer coaches- working as best they can with their team. They are typically hosted right after school at Hicks, but could be on a weekend or evening depending on the coach's schedule. Prior playing experience is NOT required, but your athlete will need to have the required gear for the sport to participate (shin guards, cleats for soccer, etc). 

 

What happens Tournament Weekend? 

Our Hicks Canyon teams will play against other schools for the opportunity to emerge as the Champion! Please note that specific game times are not set until the week of the event as organizers have to work with the number of teams registered and available fields/courts. All teams play at least 2 games... more if they progress in the bracket. 

 

WE NEED COACHES! 

You do NOT have to be a pro athlete in the sport in order to coach - we're looking for parents who can dedicate a little time to practices and have a little knowledge of the sport! Learn more about coaching here! And then contact Cara at toc@hickscanyon.org if you are interested!

  • Soccer: Registration NOW OPEN! The final deadline is November 5 - but please register early so we can set teams! Tournament dates: December 4-6 
    • We have coaches for Boys 3rd Grade and Boys 5th Grade. Looking for coaches for all other teams! 
  • Flag Football: Registration closes January 2. Tournament date: January 23

  • Basketball: Registration closes February 5. March 6-7 (3rd & 4th Graders) and March 13-14 (5th Graders)
